Sight-seeing The historic gold mining town of Walhalla has something for everyone:
- Take a tour along the Long Tunner Mine,
- Ride the Gold Fields Railway along the Stringers Creek gorge between Thomson River and Walhalla.
- Walk the tramways and tracks formed by the timber cutters to access the timber from the hills which helped build Melbourne and feed the local mines.
- For something different to do on a Saturday night join the ghost tour in Walhalla, learn a little about the history and life in a Walhalla past. Please note: Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment - contact the museum for further information.
Winter Sports During the winter time Mt Baw Baw and Mt St Gwinear offer great Skiing, Snow boarding and snow play, all just 30 minutes drive from Silvertop Cottages. Snow transport can be arranged with Mountaintop Experience with ski and chain hire available in Erica.
Bush Walk Take a walk through The Baw Baw National Park and along the trails of Mt Erica and Mt St Gwinear.
Explore Take a guided tour through the mining towns and the surrounding areas in a 4-Wheel Drive.
Swim, Fish or Paddle Enjoy the Thomson River which is easily accessible at Cooper’s Creek or the Thomson Bridge.
Eating Out All the cottages come fully equipped with a kitchen for you to use, but Erica, Rawson and Walhalla offer a variety of meals for you to enjoy. Erica Hotel has good pub meals and is open all week (hot rock meals are worth a second look!). The Wally Pub is open for meals (except Tuesday), The Stockyard Bar and Bistro has a great rustic feel and is open Friday to Sunday, Rawson Resort is open all week for meals (ring to confirm availability) and the Star Hotel is a good option but only with reservations and may depend on their house bookings.
...Or Wind Down Relax on the balconies, enjoy a lie-in, read a book or take a stroll throughout the 12 acres of private forest.
